Above Belvidere North High School senior Amy Brechon (center) appeared at a "Tackle For the Cure" raffle ticket presentation prior to the August 29, 2008 Belvidere North football game against Harlem High School. Brechon, a two-sport athlete and National Honor Society scholar, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 13 and now, while in remission, speaks about her experience to raise money for and awareness about breast cancer. With Brechon are supporters and fellow cancer survivors who wore pink "Tackle For the Cure" t-shirts that were sold to raise funds for the National Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Brechon will be awarded the National Federation of State High School Associations "Spirit of Sport" award for her volunteerism during the IHSA Class 3A boys basketball state championship game at the Peoria Civic Center tomorrow.
